Appliance Removal Tips Before Moving to a New Home
A new home offers an excellent opportunity to declutter and remove the household appliances you will not be taking with you before the date of moving. The cost and amount of items you will be moving to the new residence are significant: old refrigerators, broken washing machines, obsolete microwaves, and kitchen appliances that you are not using. The peace of mind you receive will save you time, dollars, and aggravation if you coordinate the removal of unwanted appliances before moving.
Sort and Identify Unwanted Appliances
Many homeowners do not realize that they have the same or similar appliances and/or equipment still available at their new home that no longer fit their lifestyle. Additionally, you should create a list of all of the appliances and equipment you will need to remove. It will allow you to stay organized throughout the removal process and minimize your chances of confusion when packing. The sooner you remove the non-essential items, the easier it will be to pack and the less money you will spend on moving expenses while creating more room at your new home when you arrive.
Prepare Appliances for Safe Removal
There is a certain amount of preparation prior to taking any appliance away from your home. The first step that you will complete is to unplug any electrical appliances at least a couple of hours before the day of your move. The refrigerator or freezer needs to be emptied out as well as cleaned out and completely defrosted so that it will not leak during transport. The washing machine and dishwasher also need to be properly disconnected to avoid causing any damage to the pipes or having water spill when they are disconnected. All loose pieces, such as shelves, trays, and cords, should be secured with tape or packing material to make sure they do not come undone and cause harm when moving the appliance to your home.
